NewBridge Assists Notable New York Funeral Home with Right-Fit Buyer

SCHENECTADY, NY – When you think of someone who put their “blood, sweat, and tears” into their business, the families and owners of DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home will top the list in the surrounding Schenectady communities. For over 100 years, DeMarco-Stone Funeral Homes have served families in the Schenectady, Rotterdam, Guilderland, and Delanson areas.

Michael DeMarco Sr. began his funeral business in 1921 in Schenectady, New York. With his son, Michael Jr., and son-in-law, Francis Stone, they constructed the chapel of the Rotterdam location (est. 1954), an old farmhouse that served as a schoolhouse decades prior. Michael Jr. continued the family legacy and, with the help of his son Mickey, they built and opened Glenville Funeral Home in 1986. Mickey still independently owns the Glenville Funeral Home today.

In 1993, Michael Jr. and his son-in-law Larry Noyes added another branch in Guilderland. They acquired the 100-year-old White-Van Buren Funeral Home in Delanson that same year. After Michael Jr.’s passing in 2011, Larry officially became president and owner of the business.

“If it weren’t for [Mike Sr., Mike Jr., and Francis’] hard work, resourcefulness, and ingenuity, we wouldn’t have the blessings we have today,” Larry oftentimes says. “For that, we are so very grateful.”

Rollings Funeral Service, family owned and operated since 2001, acquired DeMarco-Stone and White-Van Buren Funeral Home earlier this month with the assistance of succession planner consultants NewBridge Group. This marks the fourth addition in New York State for Rollings. The funeral homes will retain their names, culture, and local commitment to their communities as well as staff that provide their families with high-quality care. Rollings Funeral Service believes that leveraging its infrastructure allows funeral homes to focus on their communities to facilitate best-in-class services and exceptional compassion and empathy.

“Many funeral home owners not only appreciate that our buyers are not large corporations,” explains NewBridge President Tony Kumming, “but that they are still able to make decisions at the local level.” NewBridge Group assisted with the funeral home valuation and financing of the purchase.
